Members met to discuss Universal Pre-K policies in the United States. We compared pre-school funding and policies in the United States to that of other countries and analyzed why they differed. Members also shared their experiences working for pre-schools and the Head Start program.

Charter Schools: The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly

Members discussed the positive and negative effects of the popularization of charter schools upon contemporary public education. Particular focus was placed upon the damaging influence of charter schools, including the defunding of traditional public institutions and the proliferation of de facto school segregation. Discussion also focused upon the PSEA-endorsed candidates in the 2018 midterm elections.

College Affordability Social

Our membership met to discuss the crisis of college affordability in the United States. Members analyzed the causes of high student debt, the effect of high college costs on the well being of students, and how educators can participate in the political process to amend this crisis through policy solutions.

Politics of Education Panel

Panelists at the event were asked questions pertaining to the Politics surrounding education today. The topics discussed included engagement, school safety, funding, public education, etc. Then the panelists had a Q&A that allowed for the audience members to ask questions they wish to ask. The event was created to inform, and engage pre-service teachers about how Politics and Education today is intertwined. The panelists included PSEA Southeastern Region VP Dr. Pam Brown, Pa State House of Rep Carolyn Comitta, and T/E School Board member Kyle J. Boyer.
